How Much Zinc to Add to Broiler Drinking Water

By ZnoNova Technical Team·6 min read·Updated 2026

A simple, practical guide to dosing a nano zinc oxide concentrate in animal drinking water or feed — the recommended ppm range, how to convert it into a dilution ratio, and a worked broiler example you can copy.

The recommended range

ZnoNova Super Zinc is a highly concentrated product (nano ZnO at ~60,000 ppm). It is designed to be heavily diluted before use. The recommended in-use concentration is:

Target dose

  • 10–25 ppm in-use (drinking water or feed)
  • Dilution: 2,400–7,200× by volume
  • By weight: roughly 0.017–0.042% (≈ 6,000–2,400× dilution)
  • pH neutral (7) — compatible with normal water lines

Convert ppm to a dilution ratio

The two are just two ways of saying the same thing. As a rule of thumb for Super Zinc:

Target in-use doseApprox. dilution (by volume)Per 1,000 L water
10 ppm~7,200×~139 mL concentrate
12 ppm~6,000×~167 mL concentrate
20 ppm~3,600×~278 mL concentrate
25 ppm~2,880×~347 mL concentrate

Figures are practical approximations for the standard liquid concentrate; confirm against the product CoA for your batch.

Feed inclusion (per ton)

If you prefer to add it to feed rather than water, a useful anchor: ~100 g of concentrate per ton of feed corresponds to roughly 12 ppm in-feed (about a 10,000× dilution). Scale up or down for your target dose.

📊 Worked example — broiler drinking water. Birds drink roughly 150–200 mL water/day depending on age and temperature. In a documented 38,000-bird trial, Super Zinc was added on specific days (around days 10–12, 21–23 and 27–29) so birds always had access to dosed water. Estimated total use for the batch was on the order of ~10 kg of concentrate. See the case study for the full protocol.

Practical tips

Other species

The same 10–25 ppm logic applies to layers, pigs and aquaculture, adjusted for intake and goal. For sows, a documented trial used ~12 ppm in feed. Ask us for a species-specific dosing sheet with your sample.

Frequently asked questions

How much zinc oxide concentrate do I add to drinking water?

For a 10–25 ppm target, dilute Super Zinc roughly 2,400–7,200× by volume — about 139–347 mL of concentrate per 1,000 L of water. Start at the lower end for routine use and confirm against your batch CoA.

How much per ton of feed?

About 100 g of concentrate per ton of feed corresponds to roughly 12 ppm in-feed (about a 10,000× dilution). Adjust for your target dose.

Can I dose it continuously?

Yes. The product is pH-neutral and water-soluble, so it can be metered continuously into drinking water over the chosen days for even flock intake.

※ Dosing figures are general guidance for the standard concentrate and should be confirmed against the product CoA and local feed regulations. ZnoNova Super Zinc is a zinc nutritional / antibacterial product, not a veterinary drug, and makes no disease-prevention or treatment claim.
